My Learning diary day 8: January 23, 2023

 

It's crazy how fast time flies and how things progress.  Punjab University Library visit took me down the memory lane.  I visited here as a young girl who was pursuing her diploma in Library & Information Science.   I don't even remember anything about the library, but to visit library after so long was a wonderful experience. The Library building is centrally air-conditioned and equipped with computer and communication network and houses more than eight lac volumes and has a seating accommodation of 500 readers. SLIM21 Library Management Software is used.  

Prefix to this visit, Mr Neeraj deputy librarian from Panjab University took a session on planning and creation of digital library.  He emphasized on the need assessment first. He discussed the basic components of digital library and suggested some open source Digital Library Applications like E Print, D Space and Green stone. 

NCPCR and POCSO Act were discussed by Mr Upadyaya.  It is very disheartening to listen about crime against the children.  I wish almighty to make this planet safe for children so that there is no need of these acts.  May be some day but in present scenario these Acts are a must.

NCPCR is a National level agency under the Ministry of woman and Child Development set up on 6th March, 2007.  

Protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) act came into force in the 19th June 2012 and got implemented on 14th November 2012.  There are 21 categories of sexual abuse.  This Act is gender neutral.  E Baal Nidaan , E box for POCSO, SAMVEDNA, Baal Swaraj, Ghar; Go Home and Re-Unite, Quick Response Cell (QRC) are online complaint management system for children.

To supplement this during our visit to university mid way some people performed Nukkad Natak on the occasion of National Girl Child Day (23rd January), under District Child Protection Unit Chandigarh.
